Location. The Aerie Resort & Spa is located outside greater Victoria in the southernmost portion of Vancouver Island in Malahat, British Colombia, Canada. Scenic farms and wineries in Cowichan Valley are within 35 kilometers of the property.
Features. Built in 1991, this Mediterranean Revival style resort was selected as one of Travel + Leisure's 500 in 2006 and 2007, and has occupied a spot on the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List since 1999. The Aerie features multiple buildings on 85 acres of gardens, forest and alpine meadows. Set 1,500 feet above the Pacific Ocean, the resort offers 180 degree views of the Saanich Inlet, San Juan Islands and Washington State. Complimentary gourmet breakfasts are served each morning, and lunch and dinner are available for a fee. Menus feature fresh local organic ingredients from the Cowichan Valley. The dining room includes an outdoor lounge with fireplace and ocean views. The Spa & Wellness Centre features natural lighting and views of the outdoor surroundings. Spa services include fruit and seaweed facial treatments, and hot stone and deep tissue massages. The resort provides an 1,800 square foot cardiovascular and strength training facility, tennis courts and yoga instruction. A helicopter pad is on the premises.
Guestrooms. Accommodations at the Aerie Resort & Spa offer private decks with ocean views. Interiors are decorated with Persian and Chinese silk carpets, European furnishings and four poster beds. Sitting areas include gas fireplaces. LCD televisions, CD players and MP3 player docking stations are available in all accommodations. Suites are equipped with refrigerators, microwave ovens and coffee/tea makers. Bathrooms offer two person jetted tubs, cotton terrycloth bathrobes and House of Chopard toiletries. Other amenities include complimentary welcoming gifts of fruit and baked cookies, and morning newspaper deliveries.
Expert Tip. The Wine Program at the Aerie resort lists 600 international selections of wine, 150 of which are from nearby Okanagan and Cowichan.
